I’m thankful that Kyleen Wright’s story is getting broader exposure thanks to Bud Kennedy’s column in the Dallas Morning News yesterday. I’ve never met Ms. Wright so I don’t know if she’s ever faced this type of betrayal from “friends” before; if not, she’s certainly feeling it now. Mr. Kennedy quotes her as saying:

Lately, like Straus, Wright has also become the target of vitriolic and mostly factless e-mails, the latest from a Central Texas activist writing that Wright has "done yourself, your organization and the pro-life movement real harm."

Wright's reply: "Never have I seen so many professed Christians casually and gleefully bearing false witness. ... It is a sad day in Texas."

Unfortunately, this behavior isn’t new and should be expected, given that the founder of one of the lobby groups trying to replace Speaker Straus, Richard Ford of the Heritage Alliance, is on record as saying it is okay to lie in order to achieve the result you desire. I recently had an email exchange with someone that was forwarding false information about Speaker Straus – when I challenged her to research the issue, she told me that she didn’t have time. And yet she did have time to bear false witness against a man she’s never met.

Mr. Kennedy closes his column with his response to Ms. Wright’s “sad day in Texas” comment:

It must be session time.

That, to me, is a sad reflection of Christians because it is all too true and reflects the view of Richard Ford, not of Jesus, our King, who said: "Satan was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he speaks in character because he is a liar and the father of lies."

Mr. Kennedy started his column with this:

Kyleen Wright is taking a lonely stand.

I know that it feels lonely, Ms. Wright. But stand firm on the truth and know that you are not alone.
