The problem is that I can’t find one. Admittedly, it isn’t a pressing issue because I’m happy with most of my elected officials at the moment. HarrisVotes.org lists these as my current elected officials:
U.S. Senator: | John Cornyn |
U.S. Senator: | Kay Bailey Hutchison |
U.S. Representative: | Pete Olson |
State Senator: | Mike Jackson |
State Representative: | John Davis |
Harris County Judge: | Ed Emmett |
Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector: | Leo Vasquez |
Harris County Commissioner: | Sylvia Garcia |
Harris County Constable: | Bill Bailey |
Justice of the Peace Pos. 1: | Judge Holly Williamson |
Justice of the Peace Pos. 2: | Judge Louie Ditta |
State Board of Education: | David Bradley |
After reviewing that list, I could see myself voting for a Democratic candidate, if they proved to be conservative, against Leo Vasquez, Holly Williamson, Louie Ditta and David Bradley. Obviously, Ms. Garcia is already a Democrat and though I do vote against her every time, I hold no particular grudge against her, I simply desire a more conservative voice in that position. Also, I’m not sure why the Harris County DA or Sheriff positions aren’t included. Obviously, I could easily vote against Pat Lykos.
As for the others, Mr. Vasquez was appointed, so I have no loyalty to him. He’ll have to earn his stripes and then campaign on them. Judge Williamson payed the puke, Terry Lowry, to smear her opponent via the Link Letter, so I’ll vote against her pretty much on principle. I have no particular complaint against Judge Ditta but then again, I have no particular reason for supporting him. And I have no idea whom David Bradley is even though I probably voted for him. With all the shenanigans surrounding the current SBOE, perhaps turnover is necessary.
So there you have it. I’m looking for conservative Democrats to at least give me an option in the following races:
- Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector
- Justice of the Peace Pos. 1
- Justice of the Peace Pos. 2
- State Board of Education
Are there any out there? It should be interesting. For more on what a conservative Democrat is or at least what some people think they are, check here at ConservaPedia or here at eHow. I thought both of those articles were interesting.
And if you aren’t sure what you are, try taking this quiz. I take quizzes like that every once in a while to ascertain my current position. My results from this test were, in order:
- Conservative Republican (Bob Dole)
- Neo-conservative (Ronald Reagan)
- Reform (Pat Buchanon)
- Moderate Republican (George W. Bush)
Interesting. Now come on, conservative Democrats, where are you?
