Tea Party Brings Iowa Style Politics to Texas

htpslogoThe Houston Tea Party Society is going to have an old fashioned candidate meet-n-greet, followed by a straw poll of every candidate that is on the Harris County ballot. That includes candidates from both the Democratic and Republican parties (don't worry, they will be in separate draws). Will a Democratic Party candidate show up? Hey, you never know, remember; Sen. Dan Patrick wants Republicans in CD-18 to skip their own primary and vote for Jarvis Johnson in the Democratic one.

The date is Saturday, February 13th from 4pm - 8pm. You can find the complete information on the Big Jolly Politics calendar or on the Houston Tea Party Society website. You know which one I prefer you go to! Just kidding....

Once again, Felicia Cravens and team are paving the way for the future of Tea Parties. The media in general has portrayed these groups as Republican shills and some are, no doubt about that. Heck, even the HTPS, the most non-partisan of all of these groups, has been accused of partisanship because of their close relationship with Claver Kamau-Imani of RagingElephants.org, a decidedly Republican group. It isn't true at all - the HTPS would be happy to host a presentation given by a conservative Democratic group. Good luck finding one, I've tried. Most of the Tea Party groups are not shills for anything but conservative principles - think League of Women Voters on conservative steroids.

At any rate, this should be a fun event. Spread the word. It would be awesome to have a very large turnout of both voters and candidates, from both parties. All candidates from all races on the Harris County Ballot are invited - perhaps a certain gubernatorial candidate will be there (wink, wink).

And last but not least - think about donating to the HTPS. They are working very hard to educate voters and, although they do try do everything on the cheap, nothing is completely free. If you can give $5 or $10 bucks, click here. I promise they will appreciate it very, very much.

Whether you donate or not, tell a friend about this event and try to be there! I will.
