Financing the 180th Endorsements

HCRP-primary-logo-smallAs we come down to the wire in the 2010 Republican Primary, the pay for play endorsements get much easier to see. In the race for the 180th Criminal Court between Danny Dexter and Marc Brown, one candidate has received the endorsement of all of the pay for play rags.

Glad you asked. Danny Dexter.

You can find the runoff campaign finance report for Mr. Dexter here and for Mr. Brown here.

In this go-round, Mr. Dexter forks over $5,000 to Gary Polland's Texas Conservative Review, $5,000 to Terry Lowry's What's Up/Link Letter, $3,000 to Police Inc., and who knows how much to Stephen Hotze's Conservative Republicans of Texas because his money flows through consultants. Perhaps through Red Zone Communications - Dexter paid them $7,700 earlier in the campaign. Or through RC Strategies - Dexter paid them $24,590 for graphic art. That's a lot of art.

I was amused at Polland's endorsement:

In this race, two candidates with extensive experience, both with service as a prosecutor, but Danny Dexter is the choice. With both state and federal experience and success as a small businessman he has the working experience and the maturity that makes a great judge. He has received almost all the major conservative endorsements and has run a positive and effective campaign. Dexter will be an asset to the GOP's fall ticket.

All the major conservative endorsements? Seriously? Hmm. Let's see. These folks, amongst lots of other conservatives, endorsed Marc Brown:

  • Senator Dan Patrick
  • Senator Joan Huffman
  • John B. "Johnny" Holmes
  • Paul Bettencourt
  • The "C" Club

Bunch o'liberals. Oh, you mean all the major conservative "pay to play" rags, don't you Mr. Polland? Pretty funny, that.

How's about we take a look at who is spending what throughout the entire campaign?

Spending two and a half times as much as he took in - I'd say that Mr. Dexter wants this position a lot.

Oh, and for the one guy out there that cares, Mr. Brown paid his consultant, Mary Jane Smith, $1,105 in consulting fees and $1,387.31 for mailers.

There is plenty of information out there for you to make your choice. Do your research and vote accordingly. As for me and those I can influence, we'll be hanging our chad for Marc Brown. Nothing against Mr. Dexter but Mr. Brown is at least as qualified (most would say far more) and there is no taint of pay for play endorsements.
