Sheri Y. Dean Birthday Bash - Fundraiser

sheri-y-dean_cake_DSC_2654 Someone had a birthday! But I didn't break the code and ask her how old she was!

I had a great time last night at the Sheri Y. Dean combination Birthday Bash / Fundraiser. Along with about 150 other folks that gathered at MomAlone's on Nasa 1 in Clear Lake. Most of the tale will be in the pictures but I did find a few things worth noting.

First off, in case you don't know who Sheri Y. Dean is (you should), she is a Harris County Republican running to be the judge of the 309th Family Court. Of course, I did ask you earlier in the year not to vote for her in the primary because she is a long-time Terry Lowry enabler but alas, you didn't listen and she won the primary with 50.6% of the votes. She noted last night that she avoided a runoff by 72 votes, telling the room that every vote counts. Indeed it does. But the past is the past, Mr. Lowry is irrelevant in the general election and Sheri is, as we say in the hood, good people.

I asked her about running in a down ballot position like this, as in, does campaigning really work or is everything based upon the top of the ticket? Obviously most voters will be top ticket voters, hopefully straight Republican, but she thinks that this year, which is sort of the sophomore year for the Tea Party peeps, will be a little different. Her research says that about 13% of Tea Partiers are Democrats, another 10% or so Independents, and perhaps 20% are newcomers to politics. She thinks that these voters will take the time to research the down ballot candidates. I hope she's right but frankly, I doubt it. There are too many candidates/votes/elections and people can't keep track of everything. But if there is one thing that they should try to keep track of it would be judges, so here's hoping for the best. But...

All is still not well with the local party. There is still a ton of infighting between the D_n crowd and normal folk. The latest example comes from that great self-appointed RINO hunter Eric Story, who had this to say last week:

Additions to the RINO list: Ed Emmit, Harris County - County Judge. Wants to create an appointed position for handling the voting process in Harris County rather than allowing the voters to choose those responsible for this process. This is a bad idea Mr. Emmit.

Kay Bailey Hutchinson - Pro-Abortion by her own admission

That was via his Eric Story Exposing RINO Candidates Facebook group. Sheesh. Ed has, in Eric's opinion, a "bad idea" and suddenly, he is anathema? Of course, he could be talking about someone else, seein' as how he didn't spell Judge Emmett's name correctly. And KBH is certainly not "pro abortion". Good grief. Eric is a good enough guy and his wife Cheri is cool but at some point, this stuff from a leader of the party will take its toll. Apparently, Jared hasn't been able to get everyone onboard for November. Yet.

There were several other candidates and politicians that dropped by. Roy Moore is running for Judge of the 245th Family Court. County Clerk candidate Chris Daniel was there, along with his ever present sidekick, Harris County Department of Education Trustee Mike Wolfe. JP candidate Phillip Webb, former judicial candidate Donna Detamore, former Congresswoman Dr. Shelley Sekula-Gibbs, and Clear Lake Republicans President Richard Risinger were also there. I'm sure I missed someone; hey, I do the best I can!

Speaking of Richard, I asked him how the club was doing and he told me that a lot of positive things are happening. Their active membership is now over 100 people and growing. And they are having a big shindig on October 9th that should be huge. Radio personality Michael Berry will be hosting the combination dinner/fundraiser, which guarantees it will be entertaining. That guy has really come into his own as a broadcaster. All Republican candidates should purchase a table and be there to get the support of this club. Heck, Richard even told me that he has improved at running the regular third Tuesday meetings! How often does someone admit that? I just hope they let people wear shorts at this thing....

And last but by no means least, Sir Winston Churchill's great-grandson made an appearance. Seriously! I'm not kidding! That's right, Jonathan Sandys was there. Don't know who he is? Don't feel bad. Me neither. But I found some information on him, click here for one article. He's apparently making the rounds of Republican circles in anticipation of a new book he's writing about Churchill's spiritual life. Heck, he was at a church just down the street from me last week! Rumor has it that at his appearance at the RLC meeting with Lt. Gov. Dewhurst last week, D_n actually waited in line to shake his hand. Now, tell me, when was the last time that D_n waited in line to meet anyone?
