It looks as though Mayor Parker and her supporters are begging to be defeated next year. A shame, too, because she has done an okay job; not stellar, but okay. Today's action by Houston City Attorney David Feldman to go against the will of the people by keeping red light cameras in place until March, 2011, could be the last straw for some of the mayor's supporters. First the water rate hike, then her support of what will be a disastrous boondoggle called ReNew Houston, and now this. Oh well, it is time for Houston to elect a Republican mayor anyway.
The city attorney said Tuesday that the city will continue to issue red-light camera tickets until March 15 despite voters striking down the devices last week.
Just take the things down, Mayor Parker. It really is that simple. It is frustrating to even have to point that out. These cameras were never about safety, you know it, the police know it, and certainly the voters know it.
My suggestion for anyone that receives a ticket from one of these cameras after November 15, 2010: just refuse to pay it. Send it to City Hall with a note that says, see November 2, 2010 election results for payment details.
Idiots.
