New Harris County Tax Assessor Collector Don Sumners wasted no time in sending current employees a message: there is a new man in town and it is my way or the highway.
Shortly after being sworn in on a Bible given to his wife's father in 1931 by her great-grandmother, employees were greeted with this letter from Mr. Sumners:

Let's see, if I'm an employee that he doesn't like, I'm out. Without cause or discussion, I'm just out. Because Mr. Sumners has an opinion about me. Okay, this is Texas, we can live with that. At least he hopes to pay me through Dec. 31st.
