Communications Workers of America Local 6222 is Sheila Jackson-Lee’s Ground Zero

Yvonne-LarsenDowntown Houston, the Final Frontier. This is a voyage of one Houstonian learning what happens when you get out of your house, out of your comfort zone and visit parts of Houston, boldly going where you’ve never been before… and paying attention.

I drove by the Communications Workers of America Local 6222 building. Local 6222 is located at 1730 Jefferson, Houston, TX.

It is Sheila Jackson-Lee’s Campaign Headquarters this election season:

If you’re not familiar with the CWA, you should be.

From the CWA website:

“CWA, the largest telecommunications union in the world, represents over 700,000 men and women in both private and public sectors, including over half a million workers who are building the Information Highway. CWA members work in telecommunications, broadcasting, cable TV, journalism, publishing, manufacturing, airlines, customer service, government service, health care, education and other fields.”

Airlines, healthcare, education, manufacturing…folks, name one part of your life this union DOESN’T touch.

First a disclaimer. My father is a retired member of the United Federation of Teachers and my husband is a member of the Teamsters. There are good and decent people all across this country that are union members. They and WE need to pay attention to the words and actions of their union leaders.

This next bit of news is directed to you good and decent CWA, UFCW and all other union members of the Greater Houston-area. One of your brothers from a California IATSE union was terminated by the union itself for wearing a George H.W. Bush aircraft carrier sweatshirt and hat while constructing a stage to be used for a President Obama GOTV rally.

Did you know this?

His son is in the U.S. Navy.

When you see Sheila Jackson-Lee at Local 6222, ask her about this incident. Who will Sheila throw under the bus; your union brother or the union leaders?

Then ask yourself “Do I stand with my fellow union brother or do I stand with Sheila Jackson-Lee”?
