Clear Lake Tea Party Townhall Features Johnson, Huls

cltp_DSC_7907The Clear Lake Tea Party held a townhall meeting last night which featured Galveston County Tax Assessor/Collector Cheryl Johnson and HD-129 candidate Mary Huls. The meeting was held at the Webster Civic Center from 6-8 pm. The turnout wasn't bad for a Tuesday night, I counted 97 people. There were actually four speakers on the agenda but I could only stay for the first two, Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Huls. Perhaps someone could leave a comment about the other two.

Mrs. Johnson started the meeting off with a recap of all 11 propositions on the November ballot to amend the Texas Constitution. She did a pretty good job with them, highlighting some of the positives and negatives on each and then making her recommendations. Here is a very short video of her recommendations:

To recap them, she is FOR #'s 1,2,3,6,7,9 and 11. She is AGAINST # 4. She is MAYBE on #'s 5,8 and 10. Maybe? Sounds like she's looking for a job with the Houston Chronicle endorsement board. Just kidding. I'm a big supporter of Cheryl but obviously disagree with her on some of these. In fact, I'm going to highlight her thoughts on # 5 in a separate post because she actually said she supported it in the body of her talk.

Next up was Mary Huls, running in the Republican primary as a challenger to incumbent John Davis. Mary gave a speech that lasted about 15 minutes. She discussed most of the hotbed topics that are important to Tea Party members and also talked about her reasons for entering the race. Here is a video of her entire speech, if you live in HD-129, you might want to watch it.

The Clear Lake Tea Party is one of many in the area. I'm not very familiar with the group and only recognized one guy that I had seen previously at a Harris County Republican Party function. That's a good thing, maybe people are going to start working inside the HCRP and try to change it before the current leadership sends it completely over the cliff into irrelevancy.
