2010 Republican Primary: Texas House District 129 - The Candidate's Issues

texas house district 129In a continuing effort to allow voters to hear directly from the candidates, the candidates for Texas House District 129 were offered the opportunity to outline their issues and plans.

Texas House District 129 lies in the bottom of the Southeast quadrant of Harris County. The district has been represented in the Texas House by Rep. John Davis (R) since 1998. Economically, the district fares better than most in Texas, with poverty rates about 2/3 below the state average and per-capita income about 1/3 above the state average. The district is considered a "safe" Republican seat, with Rep. Davis typically defeating the Democrat (when one is offered up) by 15-17 points.

There are two candidates vying for the seat in the Republican primary: the incumbent, John Davis, and Mary Huls.

I sent the following to each candidate:

In an effort to get more candidate information out, I have been doing a series on different races, asking the candidates about their top three issues.

I would like to do the same for your race in 129.

Could each of you briefly list the top three issues that you see for your district and your plan to address those issues? You can see an example by clicking here.

I received the following in return.

john-davis John Davis - No response received.

mary_huls Mary Huls - Thank you for the opportunity to discuss issues with you.  My opinion is the following;

Powerful forces are stirring in America.  With progressive ideologues in positions of elected power, a constitutionally conservative grassroots response has been born whereas common everyday Americans have left their couches and TVs to participate in the struggle as to which direction our republic will pursue.  As a potential citizen legislator, I see this struggle at Federal, State, and local levels.  I believe that the solution to our Republic's problems can best be addressed at the State level.  District 129's issues are similar to nearly every other District in Texas.

I would like to thank Mrs. Huls for her response.
