Texas House 134 Candidate Sarah Davis' Priority Issues

sarah-davis_headerIn an effort to give voters as much information as possible on each of the candidates running for the Republican nomination in Texas House District 134, I am providing a forum for answers to various questions. These answers are verbatim from the candidates. No endorsement is either intended or implied for any candidate in the series.

sarah-davisIn this installment, candidate Sarah Davis outlines the three issues that she thinks are critical to the district.

Cut Government Spending

We must audit the state budget, cut wasteful programs which drain tax dollars, and work to return hard earned tax dollars back to the tax payer. I will work to ensure that tax dollars are being spent wisely and that funds raised through specific taxes are being used for their declared purposes. Wasteful spending patterns need to be eliminated to ensure that projects with immediate needs are addressed and receive priority.  I will also fight un-funded federal mandates.

Stimulate the Economy

As we all face these tough economic times, I will work to lessen the tax burden on small businesses so that we can attract new businesses to Texas, thus creating new jobs, additional tax revenue and strengthen the State’s economic stability. While temporary exemptions to the business-margins tax have been made, long term solutions still need to be addressed. I believe that through strengthening our small businesses we can work our way out of this economic crunch.

Cutting Taxes

I will work to cap property tax increases at no more then 3% per year. Taxpayers are feeling the burden of skyrocketing property taxes, which can lead to them being taxed out of their homes. Texans deserve better and I will work to provide tax relief and ease the strain on hard working families.
