Dem Lawmaker Chases Oil Rig

Texas State Rep. Craig EilandBeing an ambulance chaser doesn't pay much these days, what with the over-population of cheap law schools and all. Plus Texas has those pesky caps on medical lawsuits. But chasing leaking oil rigs? Now, that would be a different story. You need some smarts to do that. And a few political connections wouldn't hurt a bit. So it wasn't a surprise to see the name of a guy that has both the smarts and the connections on one of the first lawsuits surrounding the Deepwater Horizon explosion in the Gulf.

From The Galveston County Daily News:

State Rep. Craig Eiland, D-Galveston, who also is an attorney, is listed as co-counsel on the lawsuit filed Friday in federal court in Galveston.

That should come as no surprise. Recall Rep. Eiland's quote after the Republicans managed to pass medical tort reform in 2003:

Says Democratic state representative Craig Eiland, of Galveston, himself a trial lawyer: “Never have so many who needed so little gained so much.”

I guess it would be too much to ask the seafood enterprises filing the lawsuit why they didn't have alternate sources. No, that would require thinking and all that stuff. Easier to sue the bad guys, you know, the ones that find and produce the fuel that makes the world go round.

I wonder if I can sue because I really, really like seafood.

Yo, Rep. Eiland, how about it?
